About Planet Earth Planet Earth is an eleven episode nature documentary produced by the BBC Natural History Unit. It was filmed almost entirely in high definition, the first documentary of its kind to be filmed this way. It was first broadcast in the UK in 2006. It was originally narrated by David Attenborough and was made over the span of five years. It was followed by a three episode companion series, Planet Earth: The Future, which addressed the subjects of species and habitat conservation and man's effect on the world's ecosystems. Planet Earth itself does not make much comment on the world's environmental problems, preferring to celebrate our planet rather than lament its problems. Included with each episode are the Planet Earth Diaries, featurettes that detail the filming of a specific part of that episode. An accompanying book was written by producer Alastair Fothergill with a forward from David Attenborough. There is also a companion book to Planet Earth: The Future, and a making-of paperback. Planet Earth was filmed in more that 62 countries at 204 different locations on a budget of $40 million (when combined with the budget for the feature film Earth), making it the most expensive documentary ever filmed. It has shown in over 130 countries, won 7 awards, and is readily available on DVD, HD, and Blu-Ray. It is an amazing series and if you haven't seen it, go out and get it now. About Fanlistings A fanlisting is a place for people to come together and declare their love for something, thereby building the biggest list of fans of that thing from around the globe. This hobby began with fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and mushroomed from there. The headquarters for the effort is at TFL and TAFL.
