Adachi Momo

Momo is the main character of Peach Girl.  Momo (which means 'peach' in Japanese) is a young woman in high school.  She is good at swimming and was at one time on the swim team. Momo is athletic, smart, and sensitive.  She is a hopeless romantic and can overreact to situations, very much like many teen girls.  She is very self-conscious about her looks - Momo is very pretty, but she is tan and blonde, and because of this people assume her to be a bubble-headed beach bunny or a slut, or both.  In truth Momo is a good girl, shy and innocent, so these assumptions have left her a loner.  She's unsure of herself in many ways and tries to change herself in ways she thinks will please Toji.  As she learns later, she is liked for herself and comes to have more confidence in herself and remain who she is. Momo is torn between her feelings for Toji and Kairi, both of whom she likes and both of whom have strong feelings for her. 

Kashawagi Sae

Sae is Momo's "best friend." She was the only one to befriend Momo at the start of school, so now Momo is stuck with her.  Sae is cute and very pretty, with pale white skin, and she is very popular with the rest of the school.  However, behind her innocent facade is a troubled young woman.  Sae is a bad girl with very low self-esteem.  She builds herself up by bringing others down, namely Momo. This gives her the validation and the attention of others she needs to feel good.  Sae copies off Momo and makes it a point to take whatever Momo wants.  She is manipulative, scheming, and spiteful.  She will stop at no length to come out on top and virtually nothing is beyond her - lying, backstabbing, and arranging the situation to her own benefit.  We catch a glimpse of Sae's parents toward the end of the manga when they are busy arguing which of them is responsible for Sae turning out the way she is, giving us a glimpse of what has made Sae the way she is.  When she discovers the feeling of love she begins to change for the better.  

Tojikamori Kazuya

Momo has had a crush on Toji since junior high.  He's the good boy of the story, quiet, reserved, protective, shy, innocent and somewhat gullible.  He sticks up for Momo when others assume the worst about her, but is easily taken in by Sae and sticks up for her when Momo tries to tell him that he doesn't see the real Sae.  Toji loves Momo and has for a long time, but couldn't approach her because he was too shy.  He will go to great lengths to protect Momo, including putting himself through great pain. 

Okayasu Kairi

Kairi (or Kiley if you're reading the US Tokyopop translation like I did) is one of the most popular boys in the school.  He's outgoing, flirtatious, and a clown.  He acts the fool but he's really very perceptive and he sees right through Sae from the beginning.  Kairi initially is seen as the bad boy, but his laid-back personality is really just a facade behind which he is hiding.  He is really a sensitive, caring soul. Kiley spent most of his formative years in the shadow of his older brother Ryo and has learned to hide his caring heart behind a facade because Ryo is just like Sae. Kairi is torn between his feelings for Misao, his first crush, and Momo, the girl he comes to date.

Okayasu Ryo

Ryo is Kairi's older brother, a young man in his twenties who works in the video industry.  He's basically the male version of Sae - manipulative, scheming, and selfish.  Ryo takes everything that Kairi has and enjoys it. Like Sae, Ryo is never happier then when he pulls Kairi down.  Also like Sae he knows how to talk to people in a way that makes them believe he is a better person then he is.  Ryo is a playboy and a chauvinist who uses women and throws them aside.  Even being like him, Sae falls for all his lines and falls in love with him. Ryo has no illusions about his nature, fully understanding that he isn't a good person.  This does not, however, make him want to change.

Aki Misao

Misao is the school nurse at Momo's high school.  She's called "Big Sis" by the students and is only a bit older than they are.  Misao is kind and understanding, but shy and self-conscious about her weight. She went to college with Ryo and has liked him ever since then, but never had the courage to tell him her feelings.  Misao cares for her students and tries to look after them.  She deplores Ryo's treatment of women and calls him on it several times.  Yet, despite what she knows about Ryo and his treatment of women, she still loves him.  Misao must be a masochist, because she's just setting herself up for pain there.

Oji Goro

Goro is a handsome male model.  He's also lonely, for he wants someone he can protect and look after, someone who likes him for himself rather than someone who is drawn to his fame.  Unfortunately he gets Sae.  Goro naively falls in love with Sae when they are working together and he basically becomes her slave when they date. During the time they are dating Goro will do anything that Sae tells him will make her happy, including hurting Momo very deeply.

Morika

Morika is an ex-girlfriend of Kairi's who was stolen by Ryo. She's jealous of Kairi's relationship with Momo, even though she doesn't want Kairi for herself but uses him to get to Ryo. She is also very vindictive toward Ryo and seeks to hurt him as he has hurt her.
