Rogues Gallery
It should probably be said that this is by no means a
complete list, and I'll update it when I get a chance.
2000 Committee
This group was dedicated to taking over the world (a popular pursuit of
villains) and used other villains to try to do so, including Tokamak, Multiplex,
Breathtaker and Mindboggler. They clashed with Firestorm on several occasions.
Clarissa Clemens, Martin Stein's ex-wife, held a position of authority within
the group when it was brought down by Firestorm and Mindboggler. Of course, for
all we know they have reformed and are once again active unseen.
Black Bison
John Ravenhair, a teacher at Ron Raymond's high school, would become possessed
by the spirit of his great-grandfather when he wore the shaman's sacred
medallion. When possessed he attempted to right all of the wrongs done to the
Native American people by the European immigrants, thereby coming into conflict
with Firestorm. He worked with Earth's superheroes during Crisis to
thwart the Anti-Monitor. He was killed by The Spectre during the events of
Day of Vengeance.
Breathtaker
Breathtaker, a criminal mastermind of The Assassination Bureau, tried to bring
down Firestorm under contract for The 2000 Committee. He used his talents as a
scientist to enhance Mindboggler's mental abilities, the process of which was
quite painful and ended up turning Mindboggler against him His current status
is unknown.
Brimstone
An engine of destruction created by Darkseid, Brimstone had incredible strength
and could generate intense heat and flame. He has no desire other than to
please Darkseid and win his creator's favor. Firestorm fought him more than
once, destroying him in the last issue to stop Brimstone from destroying Earth's
sun.
The Hyena
Bitten by a were-hyena while in Africa, Summer Day transformed into a were-hyena
herself. Initially she sought treatment for her lycanthropy and was able to
transform back to herself during the daylight hours. As the Hyena, she was not
very smart, but was strong and very cunning, and her mind was overwrought with
madness. Eventually Summer's condition worsened to the point where she remained
in were-form throughout the day and her human nature was lost. She fought with
Firestorm more than once, both on her own and in alliance with other enemies of
his. She was incarcerated in mental asylums when captured in hopes of treating
her lycanthropy. Her current status is unknown.
The Hyena II
Originally a doctor treating Summer Day, he was transformed by her into a
were-hyena. His current status is unknown.
One of the two Hyenas has been seen in the new Firestorm
comic, but it was unrevealed which one it was. However, it is most likely
to be the first Hyena, since Summer Day was a recurring villain for Firestorm
and the doctor was not seen since the arc in which he was introduced.
Killer Frost I
Dr. Crystal Frost gained superpowers when she was locked in an experimental
thermofrost chamber. While her powers generated intense cold, she drew power
from warmth and heat (including human bodies) to survive, and thus cold was not
only her power but her weakness. The transformation drove her mad and she
sought revenge against all men, for she felt men had wronged her. She had been
romantically interested in Martin Stein when they were in college together, and
hence sought revenge against him as well, thereby coming into conflict with
Firestorm on many occasions. Dr. Frost died, however her legacy lives on.
Killer Frost II
Dr. Louise Lincoln, a friend of Crystal Frost's, believed her friend deserved to
live more than she did and recreated the conditions that gave her superpowers,
thereby becoming the second Killer Frost. She also assumed Killer Frost's work
as a professional criminal and enemy of Firestorm, and was also briefly a member
of Suicide Squad. While it was believed that
Dr. Louise Lincoln was cured in Firestorm #99, she was recently seen with
her powers intact in Green Lantern, Deadlock, and the new
Firestorm.
Mindboggler
Her own natural telepathic talents enhanced by Breathtaker, Mindboggler worked
as an agent for the 2000 Committee, trying to bring down Firestorm on their
orders. Her powers of illusion could induce Firestorm (or anyone else) to see
whatever Mindboggler wanted them to. Firestorm convinced her to turn against
the 2000 Committee and try to live a normal life. She found this impossible and
went back to work as a supervillain, again trying to bring Firestorm down
because he had convinced her to try to live normally. She was incarcerated and
found work with The Suicide Squad, as a member of which she was killed. Her
mind was saved and used against the Suicide Squad by Cabal, and she also later
appeared in Created Equal as an electronic mind. In Created Equal
she became engaged to another disembodied electronic mind, Dybbuk after
reforming again from villainy. Her current status (at least that of her mind)
is unknown. Multiplex
Danton Black, a rival physicist to Martin Stein, was also trapped in the
explosion of the plant that created Firestorm (Black was attempting to steal
it's secrets). He also gained nuclear powers and was able to fission himself
into many multiple copies. He fought with Firestorm on numerous occasions, both
alone and in tandem with other villains. He was incarcerated and found work
with The Suicide Squad. While it was believed that on his first mission with
them, to destroy Firestorm under the government's orders, he was killed by The
Parasite II, he was recently seen in the new Firestorm. However,
this may not be the original Multiplex, but someone who has taken up his name
and has similar abilities.
Parasite II
A janitor at S.T.A.R. Labs, Rudy Jones was exposed to chemicals that were
manipulated by Darkseid and transformed him into The Parasite, a being who
drained people of their energy, often resulting in their deaths. When he
absorbed energy from superheroes he would absorb their powers over their
lifeforce and gained the use of the absorbed powers (and inherent weaknesses).
Parasite came into conflict with Firestorm more than once, as well as other
superheroes, and was at one time used by (and fought with) The Suicide Squad.
After a conflict with Superman, it is believed The Parasite was killed and his
body was taken to S.T.A.R. Labs for examination.
Plastique
Bette Sans Souci belonged to a radical French-Canadian terrorist group committed
to an independent Quebec. She is a demolitions expert and originally wore a
suit rigged with explosives and tried to extort the owners of The New York
News Express. Her plot was foiled by Firestorm and she was incarcerated.
While in jail she was injected with an experimental serum which gave her actual
superpowers, giving her the ability to explode objects. She escaped and teamed
up with Killer Frost II, only to again be thwarted by Firestorm. She
briefly appeared in Captain Atom as a villain, and was again incarcerated, she found work with The Suicide Squad. She reformed, was part of
the Extreme Justice team, and later married Captain Atom. After his apparent
death, she dropped from sight until she was recently spotted in 52 and
Checkmate as part of Suicide Squad.
Shadowstorm
A manifestation of the dark side of Firestorm III caused by the elemental's
exposure to The Shadowlands, Shadowstorm fought not only with Firestorm but also
later with Captain Atom, and was responsible for creating a dark version of
him. Shadowstorm's current status is unknown.
Slipknot
An agent of the 2000 Committee, Slipknot was hired by them to dispose of
Firestorm. Failing, he was incarcerated. He later worked with Multiplex and
other villains to bring down Firestorm, only to be stopped when Firestorm teamed
up with The Blue Devil. He was again incarcerated but got out through working
for The Suicide Squad when they went up against Firestorm on orders from the
government (when Firestorm attempted to rid the world of nuclear weapons). He
later lost a hand on another Suicide Squad mission and may be currently retired.
Stalnoivolk
A Russian man named Ivan Illyich Gort, Stalnoivolk ("Steel Wolf") was
transformed into a Russian superhero and fought the Nazi's during WWII. He was
utterly loyal to Stalin and an active participant in Stalin's regime. He was
later exiled when Russia rejected Stalin's politics, but returned to action as a
KGB agent and opposed Firestorm when Firestorm sought to eliminate nuclear
weapons. During this time he killed Richard Dare. He took part in defending
Russia during Invasion! and was also briefly a member of The Suicide
Squad. Presumably he has returned to Russia after his sojourn with The Suicide
Squad, where he remains a Stalinist hard-liner.
Thinker II
Cliff Carmichael met Ronnie in high school. Cliff was an intellectual bully who
consistently chose Ron as his target. This was because Cliff also pursued
Doreen Day romantically and what he disliked in Ron was also what he envied Ron
for. He did briefly extend a hand to Ron when Ron thought his father was dead.
After Ed Raymond turned up alive, everything went back to normal. Cliff also
attended Vandemeer, where he cut the strap on Ron's football helmet. However,
the helmet was put on by Cliff's likeable but dumb cousin who ended up paralyzed
from breaking his neck because of the helmet. Wracked by guilt over this, Cliff
attempted suicide and was placed in a mental institution and later in the
Institute for Meta-Human Studies. Scientists at IMHS there worked with him and
the Thinking Cap (from the original Thinker), under Cliff's direction, and he
interfaced the technology of the Thinking Cap with his brain. By this point
Cliff was obsessed with cyberpunk fiction. He worked with The Suicide Squad for
a time, betrayed them, and wound up in jail. It is believed that the technology
from the Thinking Cap was removed from his brain and returned to the cap.
It was later revealed in the new Firestorm that he augmented his mind
with advanced computer circuitry which was later melted by Firestorm
(Jason/Ron), removing Cliff's powers and likely causing brain damage.
Tokamak
Villainous industrialist Henry Hewitt wanted to take over the world. To this
end he hired Danton Black (Multiplex) to recreate the accident which created
Firestorm. He first used Lorraine Reilly to test the contraption Black came up
with, giving her nuclear powers as Firehawk. Seeing that it worked, he then
used Black's process on himself, becoming Tokamak, the living reactor. Though
he had to be confined in a containment suit, he had power of nuclear reactions
and could cause molecules to contract. Firestorm sealed (or unsealed) his fate
by opening his suit. He appeared briefly in Crisis, but was
believed dead afterward. However, Tokamak reappeared in the new
Firestorm series, setting himself against Jason Rusch.
Typhoon II
David Drake, a scientist at Concordance Research, was transformed into Typhoon
and given powers after a nuclear accident aboard a submarine. He blamed
Concordance and Martin Stein for this and struck out against both, thereby
coming into conflict with Firestorm. He became increasingly insane and inhuman,
though he did reform at one point and worked for The Captains of Industry. He
has recently been seen in Infinite Crisis and the new Firestorm.
The Zuggernaut
An extraterrestrial creature that crashed to Earth, the Zuggernaut merged with a
Russian black marketer named Marvei Rodor. Together they attempted to kill
Rodor's enemy, a prosecutor named Soliony. Because of a misunderstanding, the
Zuggernaut believed Firestorm was its enemy and fought with him and Soyuz.
Firestorm's defeat of the Zuggernaut caused the death of Rodor and the alien
fled. It's current whereabouts are unknown.
