The Power Company

The Power Company was another short-lived series, this time from 2002-2003.  By this time I was back buying comics regularly and I started with The Power Company because of the introduction of Firestorm in #11.  Yes, I did then go back and pick up all the back issues.

The basic premise was that a guy named Josiah Power, who could transform his body into a rock form (he got his powers from the Invasion! storyline), decided to form a company to offer professional superhuman services.  It would be run like a law firm and make a profit.  Firestorm (V) was brought on as an employee for a few issues, but Ron found his own ethos clashed with the profit margin ethos of The Power Company and left.  Ron, after all, had never used Firestorm's powers for personal gain. (Okay, he did pull a few pranks back in the Conway run...)

Again, The Power Company was not a comic I was reading regularly.  By this point I was really hip-deep in Top Cow titles, and I didn't have a lot of DC titles on my list at all.  I wouldn't have thought of picking it up if Firestorm hadn't made an appearance.  I'll pick up anything with a Firestorm appearance.

I really enjoyed The Power Company.  I thought it was pretty good.  If they hadn't cancelled it with issue #18, I would have continued buying it and reading it, even without Firestorm in it.  The art was consistently good and the stories and characters were interesting.  I felt The Power Company had a lot of potential and I really hope DC goes back to it.
